The State of Kuwait issued the Liberation of Kuwait Medal in 1994 to recognize the service of international military personnel who assisted in the country’s liberation during the 1990-1991 Gulf War.
Her Excellency Reem Alkhaled, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Canada, donated this medal to the Canadian War Museum following a medal presentation to six Canadian Gulf War veterans at a ceremony attended by former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in October 2022.
Canada’s Gulf War veterans value the Kuwait Liberation Medal as international recognition for their efforts as part of the multinational effort to free the people of Kuwait during the Gulf War.
