One of the great benefits of membership with the Canadian War Museum and Canadian Museum of History is free access to events such as the latest World at War Speaker Series. Launched in April 2025, this thought-provoking series features six lectures on topics exploring the human side of conflict.
Many members have already taken advantage of the first two lectures in the series. On April 10, “Canada’s Unknown Soldier and the Legacy of War” focused on the First World War and themes such as remembrance, grief, and DNA identification. On May 10, the second lecture in the series reflected themes from the new exhibition, Last Voices of the Second World War, examining the experiences and post-war lives of Canadian veterans.

“I’ve gone to the first two lectures in the series,” said one member, “and they’ve been great. There was a lot of food for thought, especially about what war costs our military men and women, both on the battlefield and when they get home. I can’t wait for the rest of the series and love the fact that it’s free for me!”
Over the next several months, there will be four more lectures on conflict-related topics. On August 14, the series marks the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. In January 2026, the discussion will revolve around war-themed books in the Museum’s Studies in Canadian Military History series, and in February 2026, Black military history and the U.S. Civil War will be explored as we celebrate Black History Month. “Although the general public pays for these events, we love being able to offer them to our members for free,” says Membership Officer Stéphane Brazeau. “It’s just one of the many ways we like to show our appreciation for Museum members and their continued support. Learning about identifying First World War soldiers through DNA, and hearing the voices of our last Second World War veterans has been inspiring. I know our members will love the rest of the series as well.”
