Canadian Museum of History and Canadian War Museum joins with region’s national museums, requiring proof of vaccination as of December 1

Gatineau, Quebec, November 15, 2021 — As of December 1, 2021, the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum will require all visitors ages 12 and up to provide proof of vaccination for general access to the Museums. A similar policy will be implemented on December 1 at the region’s other national museums, including Canadian Museum of Nature, National Gallery of Canada and Ingenium–Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation.

For public institutions, proof of vaccination enhances their ability to help ensure the safety of visitors and staff, while also reducing the spread of COVID-19. In addition, national museums will require all employees to be fully vaccinated, in keeping with recently announced federal guidelines.

In order to be considered fully vaccinated, visitors must have completed a full series of one of the COVID-19 vaccines approved by Health Canada, at least 14 days before visiting. They may present either a paper or digital copy of their vaccination receipt, or proof via an approved provincial app, along with government-issued ID that includes name and date of birth.

From the start of the pandemic, national museums in Ottawa-Gatineau have had a range of health and safety measures in place to combat COVID-19 including reduced capacity, timed online ticketing, mandatory face masks, enhanced cleaning, and hand-washing stations. Requiring proof of vaccination is just one more way national museums are doing their part to help provide safe environments for visitors and employees.

The Canadian Museum of History operates the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian War Museum and the Virtual Museum of New France. Together, these Museums function as centres for research and public information on the history of Canada.
