Celebrating 100 Years of the Royal Canadian Legion

Published

Oct. 15, 2026

The Royal Canadian Legion is Canada’s largest veteran support and community service organization, dedicated to serving veterans, promoting remembrance, and strengthening local communities. For 100 years, the Legion has played an important role in shaping Canada’s national identity and strengthening the spirit of communities across the country.

The Canadian War Museum is proud to celebrate this remarkable milestone with the Royal Canadian Legion and, most importantly, to express its sincere gratitude for the Legion’s longstanding support.

For more than 20 years, the Legion has been an important partner and supporter of the Museum — from the Passing the Torch campaign, which helped to establish the Museum in its current home, to support for exhibitions, programming, research, oral history, the volunteer program, and collaborations that bring Canada’s military history to life. The Legion’s commitment has helped the Museum connect people across Canada with the experiences, sacrifices and stories of those who served, ensuring that their contributions are remembered for generations to come.

That shared commitment to remembrance is also reflected in the Museum’s Royal Canadian Legion Hall of Honour. Located within the Museum, the gallery explores Canada’s long history of honouring individuals and commemorating the country’s military past. Through personal stories, photographs, art, and objects, visitors can discover how Canada remembers and honours those who served.

The friendship between the Legion and Museum is rooted in a shared belief: remembering matters. It helps us understand our past, recognize the experiences of those who served, and ensure their stories continue to resonate with future generations.

As the Royal Canadian Legion marks its 100th anniversary, the Canadian War Museum extends its warmest congratulations and deepest thanks for two decades of partnership, support and shared commitment to remembrance. We look forward to continuing this important work together in the years ahead.
