A New Chapter for the Canadian Children’s Museum

Published

Oct. 15, 2026

For more than 30 years, the Canadian Children’s Museum has been a much-loved space where generations of children have explored, imagined and discovered. Now, it is entering an exciting new chapter. A major renewal is underway that will transform the Museum into an unforgettable destination where children and families can continue to explore, create, play and discover together.

As with the current Children’s Museum, every element of the renewed Museum is being designed around the way children learn best: through hands-on experiences, exploration, creativity, and free play.

We will bring this approach to life through experiences inspired by Canada’s diverse stories, landscapes, cultures and creativity. We will invite children to explore life in Canada — from camping and exploring a harbour to cooking with grandparents and embracing the joy of winter. Along the way, they will discover the people, places and ideas that shape our lives and their own place in Canada’s story.

The renewed Museum will welcome children of all ages, abilities, and learning styles, with sensory-friendly features, family amenities, dedicated spaces for young children, and a wide variety of interactive experiences.

A renewal of this scale takes time. The current Children’s Museum will remain open until March 2027, with the renewed Museum expected to open in late 2028.

In the meantime, families can continue to discover new ways to play and learn. In February 2027, City in Action will open as an immersive city experience that simulates a vibrant community. Through role-playing and hands-on learning, children can explore different jobs and discover how people work together to create a thriving community. City in Action will remain open until March 2029.

As we look ahead to the renewed Children’s Museum, we are excited to share more about what’s to come and the opportunities to be part of this exciting transformation.
