New Brunswick Youth Orchestra Performance

Plan Your Visit

On February 12, the Canadian War Museum invites you to attend a performance by an 24-piece ensemble of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra (NBYO), Canada’s first provincial youth orchestra. The performance will centre around the orchestral work, A Dream of Dawn, by Canadian composer Kevin Lau, commissioned by the NBYO to mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War.

“Keeping Faith”, the NBYO’s First World War Commemoration Tour, premiered on the home stage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in July 2014. Since then, it has been presented in Germany, the Czech Republic, throughout New Brunswick, and now, in Ottawa, our nation’s capital. The “Keeping Faith” tour strives to replace the clamour of battle with respectful remembrance and the moving sounds of music.

Free admission

The NBYO inspires excellence among children and youth through the learning and performance of orchestral music. The NBYO includes 80 of the province’s best musicians, ages 12–24, chosen by audition. July 2014 represented the second time the NBYO was a competitor at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Competition and its fifth international tour since 2003.
