Canadian Museum of History welcomes a new member to its Board of Trustees

Gatineau, Quebec, June 24, 2022 — The Canadian Museum of History is pleased to welcome Mahalia Verna to its Board of Trustees. Ms. Verna’s appointment was announced by the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage, following a rigorous selection process.

“I look forward to working with Ms. Verna as she brings her inspiring and thoughtful leadership, and expertise in strategic management and creative visioning, to help guide the Museum as a member of the Board,” said Carole Beaulieu, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Ms. Verna’s experience in arts, non-profits, and media organizations, as well as her dynamic and inclusive leadership, will continue to strengthen the Museum’s diverse connections with communities across the country.

Ms. Verna has extensive experience in the fields of arts and media organizations, having worked with a number of prominent organizations such as the National Film Board of Canada, CBC, and the English Language Arts Network. During her career, she has placed great emphasis on championing diversity and inclusion, receiving recognition for this work through the Black History Month Roundtable and the WXN Canadian Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Awards. She also has experience with Board and committee membership with several digital media organizations. Ms. Verna currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer at Tripura Breath, a Montréal start-up where she leads the human resources and communications departments.

Ms. Verna has been appointed to the Board for a four-year term, effective immediately.

The 10-member Board of Trustees oversees operations of the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum — Canada’s national museums of human and military history.

The Canadian Museum of History operates the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian War Museum, and the Virtual Museum of New France. Together, these Museums function as centres for research and public information on the history of Canada. Their principal role is to enhance Canadians’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the events, experiences, people and objects that have shaped Canada’s history and identity. Work of the Canadian Museum of History is made possible in part through financial support of the Government of Canada.
