MEDIA RELEASE

Ottawa, Ontario, October 22, 2020 — As Remembrance Day draws near, the Canadian War Museum is pleased to present the Legion National Foundation’s Poster and Literary Contest Winners 2020, a display of art and creative writing created by students to celebrate remembrance and honour Canada’s veterans.

“The Canadian War Museum is proud to once again showcase the winners of the Legion National Foundation’s Annual Poster and Literary Contest,” said Caroline Dromaguet, Acting Director General of the Canadian War Museum. “Seeing how young people express remembrance of those who have served is especially poignant this year, as we mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.”

Each year, the Royal Canadian Legion invites students across the country to submit works of art, poetry and essays on the theme of remembrance. Local Legion Branches choose the best colour posters, black-and-white posters and written works in each of four age groups: Senior (Grades 10–12), Intermediate (Grades 7– 9), Junior (Grades 4–6), and Primary (Kindergarten through Grade 3). The selected entries go on to be judged at the provincial level, and the winners are then sent to the Legion National Foundation for final review. The Canadian War Museum, which is not involved in the judging, displays the top entries for each category and age group. See the list of 2020 winners online, and find out more about the contest.

The Legion National Foundation’s Poster and Literary Contest Winners 2020 will be presented in the Canadian War Museum’s Lobby (near the Gift Shop) from October 22, 2020, to June 20, 2021.

The Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history. Its mission is to promote public understanding of Canada’s military history in its personal, national, and international dimensions. Work of the Canadian War Museum is made possible in part through financial support of the Government of Canada.
